What to wear to the races?

Blog

Even after all these years, I still – like most women, even us confident ‘clotheshorses’ – have a little bit of a ‘what to wear’ dilemma! It’s not because I have too much in my wardrobe and too many choices in the shop, it’s getting it right for events I don’t often frequent.

Last month it was horse racing, you just can’t beat the atmosphere and the buzz, but you need to get that outfit right, otherwise it can feel like a long cold day!  So with the racing season upon us, I thought I’d share my outfit choices with you…

Priority for me is comfort, knowing that whatever the weather throws at me and being on my feet all day from next to the track, in the ring, the stands, to restaurant and bar, my outfit will fit the part and above all look stylish.

Joseph Ribkoff

For those of you who know me well, you’ll be surprised that I went with a simple monochrome Joseph Ribkoff skirt which I combined with a little bit of vintage in a timeless black jacket.  As you know, I’ve had Joseph Ribkoff in the shop for the past couple of years and only now do I truly understand its appeal.  It completely fitted the bill, it was complemented throughout the day, made me feel great and above all met my number one criteria ‘comfort’.

Sylvia Heise Sleeveless Jacket

Another little anecdote from me this month is my return journey from a very successful trip to Berlin to see the cool crisp Sylvia Heise collection.  (Berlin is definitely the place to be as I bumped into ‘Primarni’ buyers at the airport).  Queuing at passport control, in my usual personable manner, I strike up conversation with the person next to me, who just happens to be Fran Healy, the lead singer of Travis, the Scottish rock band!  Surprised that I was familiar with many of his tracks, we hit it off…unfortunately with a new album to promote he won’t be featuring in any of our 40 year celebrations, but it certainly made my day!!
